PHILOSOPHY BASE AND METHODOLOGY OF SCIENCE AND ISLAMIC INTEGRATION: Unraveling the Dynamics and Transformation of Indonesian Higher Islamic Institutions

Abstract

 

The transformation of State Islamic Religious College (PTKIN) from STAIN or IAIN to UIN necessitates the changing of scientific thought. If earlier STAIN and IAIN only teach Islamic science, but after becoming UIN science is taught in natural science, social and humanities -also called general sciences. The two varians of this science must be integrated in the unity of science concept, so it can be the new paradigm in UIN. Because of that, this study focus on the basis of philosophy and the integration of science and Islamic methodologies in PTKIN in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach to the type of phenomenology, so this research has the descriptive-analitic characteristics on analyze the science integration phenomena. This study concluded that at UIN there is a new paradigm that enables the integration of science and religion methodologies. The science paradigm in UIN Malang initiated by the metaphor of tree's science (Pohon Ilmu), UIN Yogyakarta offers metaphor of Spider Web (Jaring  Laba-laba) and UIN Surabaya initiated multidisciplinary-integration with metaphor of integrated Twin Towers (Menara Kembar Terpadu).
