Author Guidelines
General Guidelines
- Articles must be typed in one spaced, Garamond font with size 13 pt, except in direct quote and footnote with size 11 pt.
- Articles must include an abstract in English (150-200 words).
- Articles must include keywords (5 – 10 words).
- Local and non-English words should be written italic. Arabic words should follow the Ulumuna Arabic transliteration guideline. Download transliteration guideline here!
- Reference must be given in footnote and use Turabian 8th style. Please see click here the style of footnote and bibliography.
All articles must be submitted by Online Submission at e-journal portal address: http://ulumuna.or.id/index.php/ujis/about/submissions where author register as Author and/or offered as Reviewer by online. If authors have any problems about the online submission, please contact Editorial Team at the following email: ulumuna@uinmataram.ac.id, CC: editor.ulumuna@gmail.com

Reviewing of Articles
Every submitted paper is independently reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers (Double-blind). Decision for publication, amendment, or rejection is based upon their reports/recommendation. If two or more reviewers consider the articles unsuitable for publication in this journal, a statement explaining the basis for the decision will be sent to the authors within three months of the submission date.
Revision of Articles
Articles sent back to the authors for revision should be returned to the editor without delay. Revised articles can be sent through Online Submission Interface (http://ulumuna.or.id/). The revised articles returned later than three months will be considered as new submissions.
Withdrawal of Articles
The authors are not allowed to withdraw submitted articles in the process of reviewing, because the withdrawal is waste of valuable resources that editors and reviewers spent a great deal of time processing submitted manuscript. The withdrawal can be direct requests or without confirmation in which the authors do not send their revised articles. For this circumstance, the authors and his/her affiliation will be blacklisted for publication in this journal.
Plagiarism Check
The editors will run plagiarism check using Grammarly Premium for the submitted articles before sending to the reviewers. We do not process any plagiarized contents. If a article has over 10% of plagiarism based on the result of Grammarly Premium check, we will send back the article to the author to be revised for the plagiarized contents.
Article Submission and Processing Charges
Starting from Vol. 28 No. 1 (June) 2024, article processing fee IDR 2.500.000 applies for each published article. A waiver of the APC might be offerred to particular authors/themes.

All articles published Open Access will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download. We are continuously working with our author communities to select the best choice of license options, currently being defined for this journal as follows: Creative Commons Attribution- ShareAlike (CC BY-SA)
Manuscript Preparation Guidelines
This Guideline is used as a template with respect to the drafting purposes for the publication in the Ulumuna Journal of Islamic Studies. It can be accessed via the following legal website http://ulumuna.id/index.php/ujis/about/submissions#authorGuidelines. The author(s) is allowed to modify this template for the publication purposes. The special characteristic of the initial paragraph in this Journal is indicated by the use of capitalized letters given the example “THIS GUIDELINE” in the first line of this paragraph, which is not indented or in line with the left margin.
The articles submitted to this journal should be written in English with the minimum of 5.000–10.000 words and be handed in online via its website. The authors should log in for the publication request. The online registration is of no charge.
This journal is grounded in the following six themes, (a) Kesyariahan (Islamic law), (b) Islamic Theology, (c) Islamic Tassawuf dan Mistisisme, (d) Islamic Philosophy, (e) Islamic Education, and (f) Al-Qur’an and Hadith.
The article submitted is of the author’s orginal work that is plagiarism free, and neither of which has been previously published in other scholarly journals or books. To ensure the originality of the article, the author is oblidged to write a letter of acknowledgement stating the originality of his or her work, which is formatted in accordance with the Journal guideline (download here).
Drafting Structure
Articles should be preceded by a title, followed by the author’s ID(s), abstract, keywords and the main body of the article. The main body of the article contains the introduction, discussion, conclusion and references. The introduction and discussion are not a must; the author can directly mention the title and subtitle of the discussion.
Title
The research title should be succinct and insightful using a maximum of 15 words and without any acronyms. The topic should be actual and up-to-date.
Author’s identity
The name of the author should be without academic titles, yet containing identity, institutional affiliation and the accessible address of the corresponding author for the pre- and post-publication purposes.
Abstract
The abstract submitted to Ulumuna Journal should be concise, factual containing the research objectives, research findings and the main conclusion. It should be presented separately from the article, so it is independent. Also, the use of acronym should be avoided; provided that it is necessary, it should be defined in the initial part of the abstract, e.g. Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN). In addition, the abstract should not contain picture(s) or table(s), yet using single space, Garamond, font size 11, spacing after paragraph 6, and a maximum of 200 words.
Keywords
Keywords should contain the general terms and be plural. Acronym should be effectively used (legal abbreviations used in the field that meet the requirements). These keywords will be used for indexation.
Introduction
This section comprises the background, the literature review or the summary of previous relevant studies, the aims of writing the article, and the description of the problem solving and clear objectives of the research. There are three main distinctive characteristics of the Ulumuna Journal, which include the background, the objectives and method of the study (without using such terms explicitly as subtitles in the main body of the article).
Discussion
The discussion is highlighted in the title and subtitles of this section. In addition, this section should significantly explore the research findings without redundant and long direct quotation.
Conclusion
The conclusion and recommendation of the author are given in this section and are consistent in using the term “Conclusion”. The conclusion of the research should serve the urgent purposes of the study within this section. This can be followed by suggesting the relevant future studies.
References
Referencing format used in this journal uses footnote model pertaining to the characteristics of each reference such as books, translated books, periodical or volume books, Anthology, article in book chapter, Journal articles, articles in encyclopedia, articles in website (internet), articles in mass media [magazine, tabloid, bulletin, and newspaper], research reports, thesis, dissertation, manuscript, and holly books. Ulumuna Journal employs the Turabian style reference system. Please use Reference Manager Applications like EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc. Use other published articles in the same journal as models. Layout and Writing Format
Articles submitted are written using Microsoft Office Word (doc atau docx format), paper size 16 cm X 24 cm, and top and left and bottom and right margin 2.25 cm.
The first and second word in the initial paragraph of Ulumuna Journal should be capitalized, e.g., “This guideline” with no indent or in line with the left and right margin. The substantial forms of paragraph are formatted using justified text, single space, the first line 0.7 cm, widow/orphan control, Garamond letter with font size 13; and Greek alphabets and Sakkal Majalla with font size 14 respectively for English and Arabic written articles. All forms of the paragraph should be based on the aforementioned formats except for the articles deploying direct quotation or translation of Arabian texts.

Direct quotation: It should be grounded in as the following formats: (1) Latin script: Font Garamond size 11, paragraph indent 0.7 cm, spacing before 3pt, and spacing after 6pt; paragraph widow/orphan control; (2) Arabic Text: Font Syakkal Majalla size 14pt; spacing before 3pt, after 6pt, widow/orphan control.
Footnote: It should be formatted as the followings: (1) Latin script: Font Garamond size 11pt, first line 0.7cm, spacing before 3pt, after 6pt; paragraph widow/orphan control; (2) Arabic Text: Font Syakkal Majalla size 12pt; spacing before 3pt, after 6pt, widow/orphan control.
Article Title: It should be written in bold, using Font Garamond 13 pt, Capitalized letters, Single space , centered, outside border. The title, author’ ID(s), abstract, and keywords should be in single main page.
Author’s Identity: It should be written in bold: the author’s names (without academic titles), font Garamond size 13 pt, capitalized initial letter, single space, justified text, paragraph spacing before 12, outside border. Institutional affiliation and email address of the author are written using single space, justified text, Garamond letters, font size 11pt, outside border.
Abstract: It should be formatted as the followings: Font Garamond size 11pt, paragraph indent 0.7 cm, spacing after 6pt, paragraph widow/orphan control, and top border.
Keywords: It should be based on the following format: Font Garamond size 11pt, paragraph indent 0.7 cm, spacing after 6pt, paragraph widow/orphan control, and bottom border.
Subtitles: It should be written as the following format: Font Garamond size 13pt, bold, single line spacing, spacing before 12pt, after 2pt; embedded into the next paragraph.
Sub of subtitles: It should be formatted as the followings: Font Garamond size 13pt, regular italic, single line spacing, spacing before 12pt, after 2pt; embedded into the next paragraph.
References: Cite the main scientific publications on which your work is based. Cite only items that you have read. Do not inflate the manuscript with too many references. Avoid excessive self‐citations. Avoid excessive citations of publications from the same region. Check each reference against the original source (authors name, volume, issue, year, DOI Number). Please use Reference Manager Applications like EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc. Use other published articles in the same journal as models. Articles should include the references, which are organised in alphabetical order and attach only the references used. The reference system used is Turabian 8th edition style.
